Lenovo 300e Chromebook Turns on but Black Screen
Lenovo chromebook s330 black screen
My chromebook crashed while i was playing roblox, the screen just went black. I tried turning it on but it's not working. There is power in it because the brightness can be changed and the power indicator by the charger is green when plugged in.
Edit: i have tried hard reset with refresh and power button, i only Get the start up sound and the screen still stays black

I had the exact same issue with mine. I reset it by doing ESC + Refresh + Power. If that doesnt work hook up a second monitor.
One thing to note, after hard resetting I restarted to update and the issue came back again. So try holding off on updating until they come up with a fix for this.

So, I've come across this problem. It appears to have happened when I restarted to update this past Saturday. It appears that using an external display can work and I was able to get going again by resetting my S330 with recovery media.
I had to download the recovery media, so I assume that's kept as the latest version. I'm running 87.0.4280.88.
It actually occurred again this morning and I once again had to use the recovery to get it working. Very weird and annoying.

What happens if you power wash?

Literally just had the same thing happen to mine right after I logged out. Hope all turns out okay!

Did OP come right? My orients have the same laptop and it also happened. I have it with me now, even opened up the thing to disconnect battery. No game, it's on with brightness. External monitor just shows a blurred screen wallpaper but that's it...
Seems an update killed them?

Yes, as far as I can tell it's 87.0.4280.88 that is causing the trouble. When you connect an external display, it's probably extending the display by default and not showing anything as the laptop screen would be showing the login screen. Shut the laptop screen or hit ALT+Monitor function key to mirror.

It looks like there has been another update released. I was able to download and install 87.0.4280.109 with no issues. Perhaps this fixed the previous issue?

Hi! Where did you find the new update?

Where can i find this recovery?

This just happened to me. Can anyone walk me through this and ELI5? Don't quite understand what a lot of you are saying.

You need a usb memory stick and a computer (Windows or mac) to download the recovery image. Follow the link above in this thread.

I have this problem, when I press the ESC+Refresh+power button it asks for a recovery usb. Where can I find the recovery ?

What worked for me was: connect and external monitor, closed the laptop, reset (refresh+power button) with that I saw the login screen, applied updates just in case and with that back to normal, hope this helps someone

Had the exact same issue and found that updating the OS worked like a charm.
Connect second screen (CTRL + FullScreen function key to switch mirroring)
Go to settings - About Chrome OS - Check for updates
The weird thing is that after I updated, my screen works again, but it still says I'm running 87.0.4280.88

Mines having the same issue ever since the battery died last time I was using it.
However when I use the second monitor and check for updates it says I'm up to date with version 88.0.4324.186
I guess I'll have to do the recovery option
