Hello,

Thank you for posting your concern on the forum.

As per the issue description the screen goes black for 2-3 seconds. So, there might be a chance that the issue is with Display drivers.

I would suggest you to uninstall the device from Device Manager, uninstall the device drivers from program list and then download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

For example: Below are the steps provided to remove Display Adapter drivers.

Step 1:

Uninstall the Device from Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand the Display Adapter section.
  • Find the Display card Driver.
  • Right click Display card Driver and select Uninstall.
  • Select the check box delete the driver software for this device.
  • Reboot the computer after uninstall process has finished.

Step 2:

Uninstall the Device Drivers from Program List in Control Panel

  • Click on start, select Control Panel
  • Now click on Programs and select Programs and Features.
  • Find the Display card Driver.
  • Right click Display card Driver and select Uninstall.
  • Reboot the computer after the uninstall process has finished.

Step 3:

Download and install the latest drivers for the Display card from the manufacturer website

Dell Drivers

Lenovo Drivers

Hope this would help. If issue still persists post back with current status of your computer and result of proposed suggestion, we will be happy to assist you.

Regards,

Ramesh Kumar.

Thanks Ramesh.

I reinstalled all the drivers - they were the same ones. The problem remains.

I'll restate: Windows is incorrectly identifying the model of the display. After I uninstall and delete the driver, I attempt to point to the folder in which the driver is installed however I receive the message " "The best driver software for your device is up to date"" and it automatically installs the incorrect driver.

Are you able to provide any guidance on how to address this?

Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for the update on the issue.

If issue still persist, I would suggest you to try the below mentioned steps and see if it helps.

Step 1: Boot the computer in safe mode.

Let's boot the computer in Safe Mode and check if issue reappears. Safe mode is a diagnostic mode that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you're using. You may refer to the article mentioned below to boot the computer in safe mode.

Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)

Step 2:

If your computer works fine in safe mode, I would suggest you to perform clean boot .

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot .

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note : Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Hope this would help. If issue still persists post back with current status of your computer and result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to assist you.

Regards,

Ramesh Kumar.

Thanks, but those steps don't solve the issue. (Safe mode doesn't start the VGA port anyway, so its irrelevant).

(Update: I have contacted Lenovo (the laptop manufacturer) support who connected to my computer and after extensive checks they could not identify the cause either.)

I'm still stuck and this is driving me slowly insane. I need to run presentations on this machine and currently its unusable due to this issue! Please help!!!!

I've tried all your recommendations to no avail.

I located the original driver disk, installed the original driver (for a Dell G2210) and the problem remains.

I have a second monitor of the same model that I tried, using new power cable and new VGA cable, but the problem remains.

I do notice that when I look at the drivers listed for the monitor it lists BOTh the G2210 driver AND monitor.sys - could this have an impact?

Thanks!

This is not a problem with any software on your machine, this is a problem with the Lenovo E550 laptop.

One way to prove its the same issue that we are experiencing is to plug out the power cable for the laptop and run on battery, the problem either goes away or is improved dramatically.

We have purchased 3 of them for our office and so far ALL 3 have shown this fault.

I contacted Lenovo in regard to the first one and was told a part was required and would be dispatched with a technician within 5 business days.

12 days later I contacted them again to be told that the part would not be available for another month!!!

After raising a formal complaint I was told by Lenovo the machine in its entirety would be replaced free of charge.

This machine is still sitting waiting for collection.

A second machine which is also in the same office and was purchased at the same time is now showing the same behaviour as the first and a THIRD machine has just started showing the same behaviour.

We will be sending all 3 machines back to Lenovo as they are obviously not fit for purpose and I would recommend to you to contact Lenovo immediately and describe the problem.

Thanks Jim, Lenovo offered the same option to me but I couldnt afford to be without a laptop while waiting for them to recieve my old one before constructing and shipping a new one to me.

I sold both monitors (to people without Lenovos!)  and will have to look for new ones.

Hello,

I have the same issue as in the original question.

I have a Lenovo E560 i5-6200U 8Mb Ram with Intel HD Graphics 520 on board and running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

My external monitor - Lenovo ThinkVision X24 connected via a Lenovo Onelink Dock Pro and a DisplayPort cable.

Like the first writer my screen goes black for 3-5 seconds and then comes back on again at random intervals.

I get the message "The best driver software for your device is up to date" too if I try to make driver updates.

All my hardware has been replaced one by onewithout success.

My trouble started for about nine months ago when my laptop was about two months old.

Any suggestions?

My computer is doing the same thing. A Dell Inspiron 7000. External monitor either glitches, or goes black for a second or two. Sometimes it will go hours and not do it, other times it does it within minutes apart.

and every now and then, the monitor on my laptop goes completely black. It does not go out, as I can still see the back light on in the monitor, but just goes black, with external monitor still working. When the laptop screen goes black, I have to restart the computer to get it to come back on. But most of the time the issue is with the external monitor.

Dell support has had me try a multitude of things over the past 30+ days. email after email and several phone calls.
reload drivers, delete drivers, etc.

I think they want my next step to be completely reloading my computer... which I do not look forward to.

extremely frustrating.

Here's a video of my external monitor going out.
