How to Add Another Email Account on Macbook Air
Add another email account to the Gmail app
Read and send mail from Yahoo, Hotmail, and other email addresses using the Gmail app, instead of forwarding your mail.
With your non-Google address, you can use many of the same Gmail features as Google Accounts:
- Search for an email by sender, subject, or other criteria.
- Move an email to a folder.
- Change how you see reply emails.
Add or remove your account
You can add both Gmail and non-Gmail accounts to the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad. Make sure you've downloaded the Gmail app.
Add an account
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app.
- In the top right, tap your profile picture.
- Tap Use another account.
- Choose the type of account you want to add.
- If you use iCloud, @me.com, or @mac.com accounts, you might need to enter specific settings and an app password.
- If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, selectOutlook, Hotmail, and Live.
- If you don't see your email service, selectOther.
- Follow the steps on the screen to add your account. If available, tapTry Gmailify to get Gmail features with your added account, like spam protection and email categories.
Tip: You can read and send mail from most email addresses using the Gmail app on iPhone or iPad, including Yahoo and Hotmail. Instead of forwarding your mail, you can add that account to the Gmail app.
Remove an account
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app.
- In the top right, tap your profile picture.
- Tap Manage accounts on this device.
- Tap Remove from this device.

I'm getting an error
"Username and password not accepted"
Check with your other email service for:
- The correct server, port, and security settings
- Whether you need an app-specific password to sign in
Note: If you're trying to add an iCloud account to Gmail, learn how to enter iCloud settings.
"Email security not guaranteed"
If your other email service doesn't support the highest level of security for your messages, we'll show you this warning.
If the issue isn't severe, you'll have the option to add your account using an unsecured connection:
- In the "Security type" section, tap the Down arrow .
- Select None.
Note: If you choose this option, your connection to your email service won't be encrypted. This means that someone might see the username, password, or message information of your added account.
Certificate error
If you see any of the error messages below, your other email service might not support a secure connection.
- Certificate not trusted
- Certificate expired or not yet valid
- Certificate has been changed
- Certificate subject and hostname mismatch
- Certificate not found
To help fix the error, you can report it to your other email service:
- On the error message, tap More info.
- In the top right, tap More Share.
Note: You might need to do a search for the contact information of your other email service.
"Something went wrong" or "Couldn't open connection to server"
You can't add non-IMAP accounts, like Exchange and POP, to your Gmail app. If you're adding a different type of account, check with your email provider to make sure IMAP is turned on.
